Yard Waste Drop-Off Site is Closed.

The Yard Waste Drop-Off Site typically opens the last Wednesday in March and closes the last Sunday in November. 

Please note that only the following items will be accepted:

  • Grass Clippings

  • Brush/Branches - maximum 20" diameter and 6' long

  • Leaves

NO CONTRACTORS!  Must be a Village resident, picture ID is required.

Household Hazardous Waste Collection

The Household Hazardous Waste Collection Program encourages you to bring harmful chemicals from your home to the permanenet collection site. 

Location: 6200 21St Street, Racine 

Hours: Every third Saturday, April to October, from 8:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.

Garbage Collection Every Week

The Caledonia Village Board approved new carts for garbage collection.  With the new cart program, all trash must be contained in the new brown garbage cart.  Each household will receive four (4) free ‘special pickups’ per year for large items that do not fit inside the brown cart.  Residents must call John’s Disposal to schedule a collection for large items.

Smaller size carts are available for both trash and recycling.  Please contact John’s Disposal if you would like a smaller cart.

Additional carts are available for a fee.  Please contact John’s Disposal if you would like additional carts.

Recycle Collection Every other Week

Please place the following in GREEN recycle cart:

MIXED CONTAINERS

  • Aluminum cans & clean aluminum foil

  • Tin cans, steel cans, aerosol cans, empty/dried paint cans

  • Glass bottles & jars

  • #1-7 plastic

  • Milk cartons, juice boxes, soup cartons

MIXED PAPER

  • Newspaper

  • Magazines

  • Books

  • Mail

  • School/office paper

  • Brown corrugated cardboard (flattened)

  • Gray chipboard (cereal and shoe boxes)

  • Brown paper bags

SHREDDED PAPER

  • Please put in a secured clear plastic or paper bag, and place in or next to the bin.

Do not put the following items in the recycle bins:

Please flatten all cardboard boxes! All recycling must be contained inside the new recycle cart.

Village of Caledonia bulk item collection or “special pickups” have changed!  Residents must call Johns Disposal to schedule collection of large items.  All households will receive (4) four free ‘special pickups’ per year.  Items placed outside of the new garbage cart will not be collected unless a special pickup is scheduled.

Acceptable Garbage Bulk/Special Pick up Items

  • Furniture

  • Carpeting (no wider than 4ft and rolled)

  • Extra garbage bags or garbage in personal cans

  • Construction materials in containers weighing less than 60lbs

Acceptable Recycle Bulk/Special Pick up Items

  • Large metal items

  • Cardboard (flattened & empty)

  • Appliances

  • Tires (2 per home per month – 8 per year)

  • Drain oil & antifreeze (sealed in 1-5 gallon containers)

  • Paper & other recyclables should be in clear plastic bags

  • Humidifiers/De-humidifiers, Water softeners

All items for Bulk/Special Pick up Items should be placed within 2 feet of the curbside and 6 feet from the garbage/recycle containers.

Unacceptable Bulk/Special Pick up Items:

CALEDONIA GARBAGE, RECYCLING & MISCELLANEOUS DISPOSAL GUIDE

RECYCLING BINS  (RECYCLING IS MANDATED BY CALEDONIA ORDINANCE NO. 2008-03)  
Bins are to be placed at the curb prior to 7:00 a.m.** on the scheduled day of collections.  In cases where people move from a Caledonia residence, the containers must stay with the residence. The recycling bin is for "single stream" recycling.  All recycle items are to be placed loose in the recycle bin, no sorting or bagging is necessary. 
**Bins may be emptied as late as 6:00 p.m.

CARDBOARD

Cardboard is not allowed in landfills. Corrugated & Container Board (such as cereal boxes and soda cases) are to be recycled and prepared as listed in the Recycling Guide.
 
YARD WASTE

Yard waste includes leaves, brush, branches and grass clippings. Residents are encouraged to leave grass clippings on their lawns. Yard waste must be kept out of refuse. The yard waste drop-off site is located behind the Safety Building at 6900 Nicholson Road. This site is seasonal. Please call the Village hall for days and hours. Tree branches are to be cut to a maximum diameter of 20” and a maximum length of 6’. This site is open for Caledonia residents only, no contractors!
 
WASTE OIL & OIL FILTERS***

Johns Disposal Service, Inc. will accept drain oil & antifreeze (sealed in 1-5 gallon containers) as a special/bulk pick up ONLY.  Also, Johns Disposal Service will accept oil filters, but they need to be placed back in the box and the box placed in a clear plastic bag (to prevent leakage) as a special/bulk pick up ONLY.

Waste oil may be taken to the Village’s waste oil drop-off site located directly behind the Safety Building at 6900 Nicholson Road. Pick up the key for the site at the Police Support Services window. A driver’s license or other appropriate identification is required. You will not be allowed to drop off waste oil after 5:00 p.m. (during winter 4:00 p.m.). ***Effective January 1, 2011, oil filters will not be allowed in the landfill. They can be disposed in the dumpster labeled for oil filters at the waste oil drop site.

BATTERIES

Lead acid batteries should be taken to those businesses that sell batteries. Johns Disposal will pick up automobile batteries as a special/bulk pick up ONLY.
 
PAINT CANS

Paint cans with paint still in them should have the lids removed and allowed to stand until all contents become hard. Add cat litter or sand to paint inside plastic bag-lined box in order to solidify the paint. The cans may then be placed in the garbage cart after drying, and would be picked up on your regular scheduled pick up day.

WISCONSIN E-CYCLE

Beginning in 2020, residents will be allowed to use one of their four Special Pickups to have one electronic item collected.

*Once a resident uses up their one electronic collection, they will need to pay for any additional electronics collections.*

Additional electronic collections are $60.

If a resident is paying for multiple electronics at one time additional TV's over 32 inches are an additional $50 each. Additional TV's under 32 inches are $20 each

Johns Disposal is a registered collector of electronics for the state of Wisconsin.  Johns would be happy to collect your electronics for a fee.  Please call Johns Disposal to arrange pick up and for current fees (262)473-4700

Florescent Light Bulbs – Contact Vans Electric (632-7241) for disposal and current fee or take to the Hazardous Collection site on designated day.

Miller Compressing

Miller Compressing accepts and pays for scrap metal, there are two locations in Racine:

  • For non-ferrous materials such as: aluminum, copper, brass, stainless steel, catalytic converters, and vehicle batteries -  can be brought to 3056 Hamilton Avenue. If you have questions you may call (262)637-2900.
