Requirements For Outdoor Events

Planning Ahead For Your Event
It is important that you plan ahead. Some approvals can be obtained almost immediately. Others can take 4-6 weeks or longer because of the number of permits and approvals required and the number of different agencies involved. The village will work to help you expedite the approvals.

Open Burning
Approval: Same day approval is possible if weather permits. Call the Caledonia Fire Department burning permit line (835-4357) for approval.  Recreational, ceremonial and cooking fires have no time limit and do not need approval, depending on weather conditions.

Violations: You could be subject to a municipal fine if you do not follow open burning regulations.  You can not burn materials that cause dense smoke, that are toxic to the atmosphere, construction materials and garbage. Burning is not allowed on village property or in a ditch.

Tent Permit
Permits: The Village of Caledonia does not require a tent permit. Racine County may require a temporary occupancy permit depending on use (contact Julie Anderson, 886-8478 or julieA@Racineco.com)

Inspection: An occupancy inspection is required for tents used for commercial or public events, and by request for private events. Call Caledonia Fire Department, 835-2050.

Requirements Apply to tents for commercial and public events, and for safety reasons, are recommended for tents at private gatherings.

>  Tent of 1500 sq. ft. or more must be located at least 20 ft. from any other structure or adjoining property lines.

>  Tent must be certified as flame resistant.

>  Smoking not permitted in the tent.

>  Tent required to have two unobstructed exits at or near opposite ends (sides-up satisfy this requirement).

>  Exit lights are required when the tent is occupied at night or if there is low interior light  (Reference Department of Commerce Chapter 62).

>  Portable fire extinguishers are required (Recommended –3 ABC rating).

Street Use Permit (Closing Street For Event)
Permit: fee is $10.00. Submit written request to Caledonia Village Hall, 6922 Nicholson Road, Caledonia, WI 53108.

Approval: Your request will be reviewed by the Police Chief , 835-4423.

Caledonia Code or Ordinances, Title 7, Chapter 7.

Temporary No Parking Requests
Approval: Police Chief (835-4423) will review request for temporary No-Parking and refer recommendation to the Village Board. The Village Board votes on approval or denial at regular meeting, first and third Tuesday of month, 7:00 p.m., Caledonia Community Center, 6156 Douglas Avenue.

Amplified Music, Live or Recorded
Permit: Loud music is prohibited unless the event obtains a permit from Police Chief, 835-4423.
Village Board: General hours for amplified music are 9:00 a.m. -9:00 p.m., although the Village Board can make exceptions.

Temporary Authorization To Sell Beer & Wine
License: Request in writing for a temporary Class B licenses (fermented malt beverages and wine) to the Village Board for authorization. Must be a bona fide club, association, lodge or society.

Licensing Of Amusement Parks and Carnivals
License: Request must be in writing to the Village Board. Requires $150.00 fee. A public hearing on the application is required. To begin application, contact Village Clerk Karie Torkilsen, 835-6415 or ktorkilsen@caledoniawi.com.

Fireworks Permit
Permit: A permit is required to discharge fireworks and is issued by the Village President only. Permits may be issued only to a public authority, park board, fair association, civic organization, amusement park, agricultural producer.

Food Service Regulations
Regulations: All inquiries should be made to the Caledonia/Mt. Pleasant Health Department, 835-6429.  This requires a case-by-case analysis and decision. Call for an appointment.

Caledonia Park Regulations & Shelter Rental
Park Regulations: Contact Caledonia Parks & Recreation for park regulations.

Reservations: The Caledonia Parks and Recreation Department has four picnic shelters to rent on a first-come, first-served basis. To reserve a shelter, call Caledonia Village Hall (835-4451).  Reservations for the Franksville Park are taken at the Mt. Pleasant Village Hall (554-8750), or by calling the Caledonia/Mt. Pleasant Joint Park Office at 886-0352.  Leave a message and your call will be returned as soon as possible.

Rental Fee:  Linwood Park and Gorney Park $75.00(Resident)  or $100 (Non Resident).  For Crawford Park $100 (Resident) or $125 (Non Resident).

Beer/Wine Permit: NO additional fee. Needs to be requested at time of reservation.

Linwood Park, located on 5 Mile Road just east of Hwy 38, has parking and a shelter with 6 tables.  Has a port-a-potty. No water or electricity.

Gorney Park, located on Nicholson Road just north of 7 Mile Road, has 2 shelters - upper and lower with 6 tables, parking,  electricity, but no water.  A port-a-potty is located at the upper shelter and an in-ground restroom is at the lower shelter.

Crawford Park, located on Chester Lane behind Green Tree Mall, will have a shelter with flushing toilets, running water, and electricity in 2003.
