CALEDONIA GARBAGE, RECYCLING & MISCELLANEOUS DISPOSAL GUIDE
RECYCLING BINS
Bins are to be placed at curb prior to 7:00 a.m. ** on the scheduled day of collections. In cases where people move from a Caledonia residence, the containers must stay with the residence. For special occasions, if you have more material than your containers can handle, you may use a transparent bag. The recycling bin is for "single stream" recycling. All recycle items are to be placed loose in the recycle bin, no sorting or bagging is necessary. Additional bins are available at the Caledonia Village Hall at a cost of $7.50 ea.
**Bins may be emptied as late as 6:00 p.m.
RECYCLING IS MANDATED BY CALEDONIA ORDINANCE NO.2008-03.
CARDBOARD
Cardboard is not allowed in landfills. Corrugated & Container Board (such as cereal boxes and soda cases) are to be recycled and prepared as listed in the Recycling Guide.
YARD WASTE
Yard waste includes leaves, brush, branches and grass clippings. Residents are encouraged to leave grass clippings on their lawns. Yard waste must be kept out of refuse. The yard waste drop-off site is located behind the Safety Building at 6900 Nicholson Road. This site is seasonal. Please call the Village hall for days and hours. Tree branches are to be cut to a maximum diameter of 20” and a maximum length of 6’. This site is open for Caledonia residents only, no contractors!
WASTE OIL & OIL FILTERS***
Johns Disposal Service, Inc. will accept drain oil & antifreeze (sealed in 1-5 gallon containers) on your recycle day ONLY. Also, Johns Disposal Service will accept oil filters, but they need to be placed back in the box and the box placed in a clear plastic bag (to prevent leakage) and place in your recycle bin for disposal.
Waste oil may be taken to the Village’s waste oil drop-off site located directly behind the Safety Building at 6900 Nicholson Road. Pick up the key for the site at the Police Support Services window. A driver’s license or other appropriate identification is required. You will not be allowed to drop off waste oil after 5:00 p.m. (during winter 4:00 p.m.). ***Effective January 1, 2011, oil filters will not be allowed in the landfill. They can be disposed in the dumpster labeled for oil filters at the waste oil drop site.
BATTERIES
Lead acid batteries should be taken to those businesses that sell batteries. Johns Disposal will pick up automobile batteries as a bulk garbage item on your regular day of service.
PAINT CANS
Paint cans with paint still in them should have the lids removed and allowed to stand until all contents become hard. Add cat litter or sand to paint inside plastic bag-lined box in order to solidify the paint. The cans may then be placed in the normal recycling after drying.
CONCRETE AND ASPHALT
Payne & Dolan will accept old chunks of asphalt and concrete. Azarian Wrecking will accept concrete only. Residents should call ahead to make arrangements to drop-off material. Do not mix the two materials.
