Business Climate

As the Southeastern Wisconsin region continues to attract new residents and businesses each year through the efforts of many, the demand for products and services has increased in Caledonia, making it a prime location for new business.  Some of Caledonia's business advantages include, but are not limited to:

  • Location:
The Village of Caledonia is located between two major cities of Chicago and Milwaukee.  The Village has direct access to the path between these two hubs.
  • Transportation:
The Village is served by U.S. Highway 41/Interstate 94; three state highways (31, 32, 38) and three county highways (G, H, V). The City of Racine's Belle Urban System, a fixed-route bus, serves the Greentree Shopping Center on Douglas Avenue. Wisconsin Coach Lines USA also stops in Caledonia on its route between Milwaukee, Racine and Kenosha. The General Mitchell International Airport is located approximately eight miles away and is served by Wisconsin Coach Lines. The Chicago O'Hare International Airport is located about 60 miles south and is served by United Limo bus service, with stops at I-94 & Highway 20 (Mobil gas station) and other Milwaukee & Kenosha locations.

Two smaller airports serve the area: Batten Field, located adjacent to the town on North Green Bay Road, and Sylvania Airport located in the Village of Sturtevant.

    • Amtrak passenger service to Milwaukee and Chicago is available in the Village of Sturtevant, just south of Caledonia on County Trunk Highway H. The METRA commuter rail service to Chicago and points in between is available in downtown Kenosha. Future proposed plans call for the METRA service to be extended north to downtown Milwaukee with stops in Racine, Caledonia, and several stops in Milwaukee County.

In Spring 2002 the Village began a three-year neighborhood planning project, which is part of its comprehensive planning (Smart Growth) effort. The Village was divided into nine urban neighborhoods and the large rural area. Citizens and professional planners are working together to plan for transportation, parks and open space preservation, and business development.

    • Workforce:
The City of Racine and its abundant workforce is immediately adjacent to the Village of Caledonia.
